Pic of the Day: Oct. 26, 2014 (Special Obituary Edition)

20110907 - DSC09398b - QC 15 - Taveras

That’s 22 year-old St. Louis Cardinals rookie Oscar Taveras, three years ago when he was with the Quad Cities River Bandits (batting in the playoffs at Clinton against the Lumberkings on Sept. 7, 2011; the Bandits won the MWL Championship that year.)

Reports indicate that he was killed today in a car wreck in the Dominican Republic.

This one was from July 14 of that year – in Davenport against the Dayton Dragons.  He’s about to make contact with the ball; I checked my records, and I’m pretty sure he connected with it for a hit.

Fox ‘News’: All Young Women are Trans Women

Well, not in so many words, but I’m sure all of you are aware of the lie pushed by terroristic TERFs that trans women aren’t women because we don’t have the same life experiences as the white, overprivileged, middle-to-upper-class women whose white, overprivileged, middle-to-upper-class lives are what terroristic TERFs believe have declared to be eligible to adequately act as rhetorical stand-ins for all cis women’s life experiences because….

hell, I dunnow…, Benghazi?

That makes about as much sense as any ‘reason’-ing I’ve ever heard as to why the white female life experiences leading to doctorates in 1970s Boston or law degrees in 1990s Maryland or permanent employment in Gay, Inc. at any time have any connection to the underclass female life experiences – of any race, cis or trans – anywhere at any time….

which brings me to Gavin Newsom’s ex-wife.

“The Five” co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle said Tuesday that young women should excuse themselves from voting in the upcoming midterm elections because they don’t share the same “life experience” as older women….

Congratulations, young women!

You’re all trans now!

Imagine That…

Its not as if election day is a week and a half away or anything.

A suggestion to CNN: How about letting the citizenry vote before you declare the winner, eh?

Memo to Chad Griffin: How About Ponying Up Some Help for One of the Trans Activists Whose Existence You Spiced Up Your Southern Comfort Speech With?

This is ‘New’ HRC’s moment of truth.  Monica Roberts is in need of help – and don’t tell me that HRC doesn’t have resources to spare.

Homelessness is  a critical issue for trans people, with one in five having experienced homelessness at some time in their lives because of discrimination and family rejection. As a result, an estimated 20-40% of the more than 1.6 million homeless youth in the United States are LGBT

Unfortunately, transgender people facing homelessness also face discrimination from agencies that should be helping them, with nearly one in three (29%) reporting being turned away from a shelter due to their transgender status. While leading experts on homelessness recommend providing emergency housing consistent with a person’s gender identity, 42% of trans people facing homelessness have been forced to stay in a shelter living as the wrong gender.

In the 20 years I’ve been transtioned, while I’ve dealt with unemployment, I’ve always managed on one level or another to keep a roof over my head and avoid being part of that trans homeless narrative.

Until now.

Due to a confluence of events, I’m about to get bounced from the place I’ve called home for the last four years, and one of the relocation options I was counting on fell through.

Fair is Fair

Just to demonstrate that I am not just picky when it comes to right-wingers and HRC (I know, I know – a lot of overlap with those two, but I digress…), I’m going to get picky with one of my favorite progressive sites, Crooks and Liars.

There is a right-wing shock jock (and failed local Houston TV sports anchor) named Dan Patrick who, after slithering into politics, is about to ride Greg Abbott’s Jim Crow voting restrictions into the Texas Lieutenant Governor’s office.

The problem is that its not the radio guy named Dan Patrick who is pictured.  That one is currently the co-host of NBC’s Sunday Night Football pregame show as well as the current host of his own morning radio sports talk show and a former co-anchor of ESPN’s Sports Center back in the Olbermann days.

Though I have gotten the impression that the pictured Dan Patrick is a bit more conservative than K.O., I also get the impression that he is not a right-wing psychopath – which is what the non-pictured Dan Patrick is.

Sorry, C&L but this is just plain laziness.  The Mother Jones item that you link to has a photo of the nutcase.  Couldn’t you have checked?
