Twelve Years Before 2007

WCT - 19950928

Something to think about this week when people (I truly don’t know if Phyllis is among them; I haven’t chatted with her in a while, but I nevertheless point out her rosy assessment of things following a meeting in D.C. nineteen years ago between her, other trans activists and operatives of HRC, which in 1995 had yet to jettison the ‘F’ or the dishonest, immoral institutional attitude toward trans people that led to pickets against the HRCastle in 2004, which was three years before…well, you know…) who should know better are thinking – and asserting – that, seven years after 2007, we should believe anything that the 2007 six-figure-salaried liar’s half-million-dollar-salaried successor has to say at Southern Comfort in Atlanta.

HRC owes trans people profuse, specific and unequivocal apologies and admissions of fault.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that it has long fostered an institutional culture of transphobia that has bled over into other LGB( ) organizations and into academia.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that the organization was strategically, politically and morally wrong to ever pursue ‘incremental progress’ on ENDA under any circumstances – doubly so when either or both Congress and the White House were controlled by Republicans with no version of ENDA having no chance of becoming law.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that Joe Solmonese lied to Southern Comfort (and all trans people) in 2007.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that its 2007 ‘poll’ to justify its actions on ENDA that year was fraudulent.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that it has actively and aggressively undermined trans activism and activists over the last 20+ years.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that it has pre-lobbied Congress to undermine trans activists’ efforts to do the precise sort of educating of Congress that HRC long claimed was necessary for trans-inclusion to be possible.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal acknowledgement that its policies, strategies, philosophies and politics have resulted in substantive harm to trans politics, activism and lives at the federal, state and local levels.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that it has aggressively engaged in the blacklisting of trans activists who have stood up to HRC over the years.

HRC owes trans people an unequivocal admission that it has discriminated against trans people in its own hiring practices.

HRC owes trans people reparations for all of the above.

In 2014, words lacking such apologies and admissions, and not accompanying such reparations, are less than worthless – as is anyone who expects to get away with spewing such unaccompanied words.

And the less said about anyone who might believe such unaccompanied words, the better.

  1. I just wonder if they were to admit ALL of the above, who would join the class action against them for reparations ($$$$$$$$$)… I for one want cash, up front, for not fully bleeding them out of existence!

    • Right now I think the offer is a pile of S&H Green Stamps and an 8×10 glossy of Bil Browning.

      • Wow… you are generous… S&H Green Stamps… have you not watched American Pickers or such other shows that put value on these? As for the 8 x10, I would have thought a 2 x 3 would be more in line with their current offer.

        • 2 x 3

I did mean centimeters, not inches.
