43 Years Later

That was then…

unworkable

From the Oct. 10, 1971 edition of the Binghamton (NY) Press:

Homosexual Firemen ‘Unworkable’

New York (AP) – Can homosexuals make good firemen?

A city councilman says no, charging that proposed legislation banning discrimination against homosexuals in employment and housing would lead to “unworkable and demoralizing situations” in the city’s firehouse.

Councilman Michael DeMarco, D-Bronx, a member of the council’s general welfare committee, made the charge at a committee hearing Monday on the bill.

DeMarco said male homosexuals working as firemen would be subjected to “too much sexual stimulation living in with a bunch of men the same as a heterosexual male living in with a bunch of girls.”

Tony Dungy Says He Wouldn't Want To "Deal With" Taking Michael Sam

From Deadspin:

From the Tampa Tribune‘s story on the NFL’s efforts to deal with locker room behavior, including the reception awaiting Michael Sam:

“I wouldn’t have taken him,” said former Bucs and Colts coach Tony Dungy, now an analyst for NBC. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.

“It’s not going to be totally smooth … things will happen.”

Perhaps Tony Dungy should consider moving to New York City and running for the city council…

in 1971.

At least the color of a certain well-known TARDIS will match all of his leftover Colts attire.
